Feeding Minds: Launch of the School Lunch & Stationery Program
Every child deserves the chance to learn without hunger or fear. TrueWorldHelp has launched the School Lunch & Stationery Program, a new initiative designed to ensure that underprivileged pupils can attend school nourished, prepared and ready to learn.
Miriam, an eight-year-old pupil at Kanyaluo Primary School, used to start her school days on an empty stomach. Concentration faded quickly, and some days she didn’t even have a pencil or notebook to write in.
That changed when the program began.
“It’s hard to focus when you’re hungry,” Miriam says quietly, holding her new notebook. “Now I can eat at school and write my lessons.”
Each day, children like Miriam receive a warm, nutritious meal—often porridge, rice or beans—prepared at school. In addition, they receive basic learning materials such as notebooks, pencils and erasers. These simple tools make a profound difference.
Teachers are already seeing results. Attendance has improved. Pupils are more attentive, motivated and confident.
“We see brighter smiles and better learning outcomes,” says Headteacher Mrs. Odhiambo. “It’s amazing what a meal and a notebook can do.”
The program currently supports three schools in the Kanyaluo region and aims to reach 1,000 pupils by the end of the year. It is part of TrueWorldHelp’s broader mission to break the cycle of poverty through education and community empowerment.
“Our goal is simple,” a TWH coordinator explains. “No child should have to learn on an empty stomach or without the basic tools for education.”
As the sun sets over the schoolyard, Miriam finishes her homework under a mango tree—nourished in body and mind, ready for a brighter future.
