Drilling a Borehole for the Kanyaluo Region
Lack of clean water in Kanyaluo
After conducting several field visits in the Kanyaluo region, we discovered severe water shortages for domestic use. The main sources of water are rain runoffs collected in ponds, which are shared by both humans and animals. This situation deeply affected us and motivated further research to find a sustainable solution.
The burden on women and children
Walking long distances to collect water is a daily challenge, particularly for women and children. School-going children often struggle to balance between fetching water and spending time on their education, which negatively impacts their learning and development.
Health and hygiene challenges
With limited access to clean water, hygiene standards remain very low. Waterborne diseases such as bilharzia, typhoid and cholera are common in the area. A reliable water supply would significantly improve hygiene and reduce the risk of these diseases.
Supporting agriculture and food security
Farmers in the region would also benefit from improved water access. Reliable water supply supports better crop production, helps combat poverty and strengthens food security within the affected communities.
Solution: drilling a borehole
With your help and compassion, we aim to restore hope and improve the quality of life for communities facing similar challenges. Drilling a borehole equipped with a pump is a reliable, hygienic and affordable solution to this water crisis. The total cost of drilling a borehole ranges between KES 1.2 million (approx. USD 12,000) and KES 3 million (approx. USD 30,000).
